So you want to be a Barrister?

Hi. My name is Morshed and I’m a student on the Bar Professional Training Course at the College of Law Birmingham.

I also happen to be an international student from Bangladesh and through this blog I hope to share my experiences of studying Law in the UK for the past three years. By doing so, I hope to inform prospective law students from Bangladesh (and elsewhere) of the realities of gaining a legal education in the UK and hopefully give them ideas on how they can make the most of their time here.

The plan that I have at the moment is that I will use the first few posts to recount the impressions and experiences I had while studying as an undergraduate. This will include posts on mooting, mini-pupillages, marshalling, more mooting, pro bono, editing a Law Review and  eating hors d’oeuvres  with solicitors, Barristers and Judges.

I will then move on to the Bar Professional Training Course and will write about how I chose a Course Provider and an Inn, the classes itself, dinners at my Inn and gaining work experience. I will also detail the difficulties and challenges one has to face as an international student when seeking pupillage or any form of long-term legal work in the UK. I hope to have some guest contributors to the blog as well, who can provide their unique perspective on becoming a Barrister.

This is by no means an exhaustive list and it is possible that over time, others ideas might take precedence. In particular, I might write a long post or two on legal issues that I am interested in. It is also likely that I will occasionally write about how the law and the legal profession is depicted in literature, television and films.

Please do feel free to comment on my posts and suggest improvements to the blog. If you would like to contribute to the blog, do leave a comment or send me a message.

Oh, and I spend a lot of time on YouTube. So, you will probably see many links to various videos on this blog. Therefore, it would be appropriate to end my first post with this video :)-
